THREE RNLI lifeboats and their volunteer crews took part in a major safety exercise off the Co Down coast at Orlock Point on Saturday. (March 7)
Donaghadee and Larne All Weather Lifeboats were joined by the crew of the Bangor inshore lifeboat to practice towing skills and to undertake a ‘man overboard’ rescue in stormy sea conditions.
Donaghadee coxswain John Ashwood said: “We practice our skills every week but it is useful to get together with other lifeboat crews. It ensures we are trained and experienced if we are called on to work together as part of a major search and rescue situation. Last year was a busy one for all the lifeboats and we anticipate another busy summer in 2015. It is important that we are prepared for a wide range of emergencies.”
