DONAGHADEE’S RNLI lifeboat, The Saxon, launched at 11.30am at the request of the Coastguard to assist a 6.5m creel boat which had taken water onboard. Its pumps were struggling to cope. The lifeboat proceeded south to Portavogie. At full speed with tide and wind this gave a top speed of 26.5kts. Information on VHF radio revealed a local vessel was assisting and had taken the boat on tow to Portavogie Harbour. With the lifeboat almost on scene, we carried on into the harbour in case our portable salvage pump was required. The lifeboat departed for home and was ready for service again at 1.00pm.
