THE sale of fish suppers is helping save lives at sea after the John Dory’s chain of traditional fish and chip shops revealed a deal to ‘sponsor a lifeboat volunteer’ as part of the RNLI’s Fish Suppers fundraising campaign which finished on Sunday.
Mark Polley, a director of the family-owned business, presented the first cheque for £1,527 pounds to the coxswain and crew of Donaghadee’s RNLI Lifeboat Saxon during Sunday’s weekly training exercise. The money will cover the cost of a year’s training for a crew member.
He said: “My family comes from the Ards peninsula and of course the business depends on fishermen and the sea so it is good to be able to give something back to the industry.”
The fast food chain has branches in Belfast, Lisburn and Carryduff but is planning to open its eighth take-away in Newtownards next year.
Mark added: “When he was a boy my nephew was rescued by the RNLI after he got into trouble while surfing so we feel a strong family connection with the charity that saves lives at sea.”
