CAROLE Watson is the winner of the Open Lifeboat Trophy at Donaghadee Golf Club and took home the coveted ‘wee lifeboatman’ statuette. The competition for women golfers has been a popular fixture at the club since 1972 when the trophy was donated by the town’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution Lifeboat crew. Around 80 women took part in this year’s event, sponsored by estate agency John Minnis, and raised £340 for the charity that saves lives at sea. The prize was presented by deputy coxswain John Ashwood and his crew on Sunday May 31 before they headed out to sea on their weekly training exercise.
