Youngsters who are members of the RNLI club Storm Force visited Donaghadee Lifeboat station last Tuesday evening.
The excited children and parents were met with a warm welcome by Coxswain Phillip McNamara and members of the station.
Education Officer Liz Brown gave an excellent presentation about the different types of lifeboats in the RNLI fleet with special emphasis on children taking care around water, as well as what actions to take in an emergency. The children especially enjoyed the lifeboat rescue videos not only showing people being rescued but also dogs and cows!.
Members of the crew demonstrated how quickly they had to react in an emergency getting into their lifeboat gear and lifejackets, before the children and parents were taken on board “Saxon” by Phillip and crew members for a guided tour.
Before leaving the station all the new “crew” were given goodie bags as a souvenir of there visit. If you know of a youngster between 5-11 years who would enjoy being a member of Storm Force, the RNLI’s club for young people you can get more information by ringing 08451214999.
